Taking the "New Road"

Hi there!

Following one of the Instagram accounts that inspire me, I came across this post. Honestly, it was part of a series, but I picked up this one because it kept ringing in my ears since I first read it because it cuts a very long story short and at the same time states a life-long fact:

It is true that we find change difficult, and we do know that it is difficult because we are not "used to it", but if you are someone who loves similes, that is a really strong one.

Changing a mental habit is the most difficult of all changes; i.e. changing your automatic thoughts/responses. This kind of change represents a threat to your "comfort zone" mode in which you are just used to effortlessly responding without thinking. Why? Because:

Automatic thinking is just like the act of getting used to take the same roadway over and over, every single day. This is why taking a new road or treading new paths means fear of the unknown, which can automatically and very easily activate the fight-or-flight response mode to keep you safe

Probably this is why it is significantly important for us to be aware and alert when we want to change some habits or automated responses that our "system" will be "triggered" to defend itself against this tornado.

Good wishes to you wherever you are :)
