Mahatma Gandhi's famous saying has it: "Be the change you wish to see in the world"
Yes, that's simply the way to changing the world: by starting with your own self. However, once you start thinking about applying this, you may sometimes (or most of the time) feel that you are "too small" compared to this big world. How can such a tiny change affect the entire world?
Think about your daily routine and whom you affect; your children, your family (siblings & cousins), your colleagues, your neighbours, your coworkers... etc. Everyone who knows you can be affected by everything you do; consciously or unconsciously. Believe it or not; it happens! So, if your social circle includes a total of 100 persons, see how many people you can inspire! And if each of these 100 persons have at least 100 persons to influence in one way or another, you can just imagine how this can actually make a difference!
Side note: Keeping COVID-19 transmission in mind can also help giving you a good idea about "infection"; be it physical, mental or psychological!
HOWEVER, in order to do this you need to start right. Do it the right way and lay the firm foundation.
Here are some steps to help you:
Know yourself better
Know who you really are? What can you do the best? Better than anyone?
This is your area of inspiration! This is where you can, and should, start!
"Workout" your self-confidence. Yes, keep "training"!
Just like your physical muscles, self-confidence is a mental and psychological "muscle" that needs constant training to "stay strong".
Gain more knowledge in "what interests you".
Health, philosophy, sports, cooking, music... whatsoever! But always ask yourself: Is it useful; to you and to everyone around you? Is it important? Is it effective? Will it help me improve myself and make my life and everyone's life a bit better and easier?
Yes, just a bit. It doesn't have to be "huge", "big", "too much significant" or "dramatically noticeable". It only needs to be useful and important. A single well-educated person can profoundly affect endless numbers of people in their social circles. Be one of them, and know how to do your thing almost perfectly (because nothing and no one is "perfect" as you know).
Develop "evaluation"; i.e.: know how to evaluate whatever you read, or listen to, or let yourself be affected by! Know how to "refine" and "select" what actually works and what doesn't! What's useful and what isn't - not only to you, but to society in general!
You can do it online! Yeah! That's really important; for people's virtual profiles seldom match who they really are in reality. This is the time to think about this again. Include this in your process of "self discovery". Be brave enough to see the real you and to work hard to make yourself real - both in the real and the virtual worlds. Be selective of what you say, do and also publish. Be aware of who you truly are - all the time.
Know how to invest your time because this is the most precious treasure you have! It can not be brought back once it is gone, so make sure you invest it wisely on something that your future self would thank you for.
Always listen to this "inner voice"; your conscience - for it ALWAYS tells the truth.
I know that this may sound too much like moral preaching, but believe me, staying true to yourself and to your inner conscience will give you better chances to experience deep inner peace that is second to no other pleasure in the entire world.
I pray that this piece of writing can inspire you to make the best out of yourself to create a better moral, psychological and mental world for yourself and whoever is in touch with you.
Stay blessed.
